2022/2023 SWPFL Review

Yesterday saw the conclusion of the South West Powerchair Football League 2022-2023 Season ⚽️🤩

It was our first full season since 2018-2019 🤯 so it is one we are particularly proud of! Considering that we kicked off in October 2022 with 3 new teams and LOTS of players making their powerchair football debuts we have seen some AWESOME football played.

We start off our season review with a big thank you to the committee members and coaches giving up their time for free. So many people are working hard behind the scenes to keep the sport alive in the South West and deserve a huge thank you 👏.

Now onto the important part… the league results!

In 3rd place, and securing their first win of the league on the final weekend, goes to Frome Falcons Powerchair Football Club🥉the players have shown that hard work, perseverance and commitment leads to goals! Led by Captain Will, the relatively young team have become a great addition to the South West world of powerchair football.

2nd place went to the fierce Bristol Dragons Powerchair Football Club🥈 led by National League player Troy, the Dragons raised the game in the South West and regularly threatened for top spot. A very impressive showing and we cannot wait to see what more they have to offer in their second season as a club.

The winners of the South West League are Cornwall PFC🏆 Cornwall remained undefeated all season and played some very impressive powerchair football. Captain Amy, showed her National League experience by dominating play and leading impressive set pieces which her team mates excelled at. They literally could not be beaten and they have set the bar high for all teams going into the 2023-2024 season.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2022-2023 season such a HUGE success including our generous funders and supporters Boost (www.boostct.org), sported and Somerset FA🙌

Next up… Helen’s Cup Tournament in June 2023. See you there 😍⚽️

2019/2020 Season Update

We’d like to update you on the results of our recent South West Powerchair Football League committee meeting to decide the outcome of the 2019/20 season.

The committee voted to null and void this season.  So, unfortunately, we haven’t won the league this year (officially).

We’d like to thank all of our fantastic players for what proved to be a great start to the season – putting us at the top of the league table before lockdown.

Thank you also to our volunteers and supporters and to our sponsors, Millbrook Healthcare, for providing a van and transporting our powerchairs to the Regionals and to AJM Healthcare for their continued support.

We’ll take the positives from this season and look forward to returning to our training sessions when it’s safe to do so and competing, potentially, in 2021.

Great start to the season

We are so thrilled to have done so well in our first matches in the Goals Beyond Grass South West Powerchair Football League.

After beating fellow new team, Frome Falcons 7-0 – with five goals, yes FIVE from Amy, and Lauren and Liam scoring one each, we then went on to beat Swindon Rockets 3-1, with Lauren scoring two goals and Liam scoring one.

We’re so proud of all the team for playing really well and kicking off the season in such style!

We’re super excited for the next matches on Saturday, 26 October 2019.
