Cornwall Powerchair Football Club has plenty to celebrate this year, as the team secured a league title in what is also the club’s 20th anniversary season. Established in 2006, Cornwall PFC has spent two decades building not just a competitive team, but a strong, supportive community around the sport.
This season didn’t come without its challenges. There were ups and downs along the way, but the team held steady, supported one another, and stayed focused on their goal. That determination has now been rewarded with a well-earned championship.
Chairperson, Coach and Captain Amy Lee-Julian reflected on the achievement with pride:
“Champions! I am proud to play alongside this team and incredibly grateful for everyone’s hard work. It was a season of ups and downs, but we stuck together, fought for each other, and achieved our goal.
Thank you to Luca and Catherine Wickens for your support and dedication this season. We’ve really valued the chance to share moments on and off the court with you again. Being our 20th anniversary, it feels especially meaningful to mark it with a league title win.
This is also a moment to recognise those who came before us and helped grow both the club and powerchair football in the South West, including Helen Phelps-Starbuck and Tom Roberts. We hope to continue that legacy.
A huge thank you goes to all the parents, carers and family members whose constant support made this possible. This trophy belongs to all of us.”
Secretary and Coach Annette Lee also shared her thanks:
“I would like to thank everyone who played this season, along with all the parents, carers and family members who supported us throughout. A special thank you to Luca Wickens for coming out of retirement this year to help us win on our 20th birthday.”
Cornwall PFC would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to AJM Healthcare for their continued support over the years.
Chairperson, Coach and Captain Amy Lee-Julian said:
“A huge thank you to AJM Healthcare for supporting us over the years. Your continued sponsorship and assistance in transporting our club chairs to the league venue has made it possible for us to compete in the South West League. Your support has played an important role in our journey, and we are grateful for your ongoing support.”
The practical support provided by AJM Healthcare has been invaluable to the club and has helped ensure that Cornwall PFC can continue to compete, grow and provide opportunities for players across the county.
This title is more than just a win on the table. It reflects years of dedication from players, volunteers, families and supporters who have all played a part in shaping Cornwall PFC into what it is today.
As the club celebrates this milestone season, there’s a clear sense that this achievement is not just about the present squad, but about honouring the past and building for the future. The legacy continues.
